I’ve never met a more welcoming community of peers. HRC students are a remarkable blend of academically outstanding students that you want to watch the big game with or learn a new country line dance. The HRC has built a community that cares about every aspect of you, whether that’s anything from school to your personal walk in relationship with God and community. The HRC has a mutual encouraging joy that is infectious, and it drives me to be a better friend, student, and Christian every day with a smile on my face. Of the Honors College programs, it has had the greatest impact on my life. Community dinner is my favorite tradition that I’ve experienced. As a freshman, it was a fun way to meet more people in my community early in the year. The speaker they had brought in was insightful and challenging. I still see the fellow HRCers from my table regularly, and I even have stayed in contact with the guest speaker from the event.

I will forever cherish the life-long friendships I’ve cultivated in the Honors Residential College community. My heart is filled with memories like running away from green bandana-wearing zombies during Humans vs Zombies, appearing with the HRC on the jumbotron ten times during one game at McLane Stadium, and fueling up on cereal as we study for midterms together. My time in the HRC has inspired me to live intentionally; invest in community; and establish a proper balance of work, rest, and play in my life. In the HRC, my authentic self is celebrated, growth is encouraged, and love is abundant. The Honors Residential College is home. It’s difficult to select just one favorite HRC tradition because my experience has been shaped by the unique combination of spiritual, academic, social, and service-oriented activities. I love the intellectual stimulation of the Formation Series, the ability to serve others through the annual Operation Christmas Child packing event, the friendships that are celebrated at the HRC Formal, and the communal worship of Lessons and Carols. If I had to select just one event that encompassed how much I love the HRC, I would choose Community Dinner. Not only do we gather alongside our friends to share a delicious meal in fun formal attire, we also remember the blessings of the semester. As we step back from the busyness of daily life, the speakers provide valuable insight for living a full life. Without a doubt, this special time of reflection, celebration, and gratitude is an incredible reflection of what it means to be a part of the Honors Residential College family.

Living in the HRC has defined my time at Baylor. I found a great community, lifelong friends, and like-minded individuals who shared my love of learning. Through my time here, I have grown confident in my faith, understanding now that faith and learning are beautiful when partnered together. I love that the HRC has people from all different backgrounds, pursuing all different majors, yet everyone is united by their academic drive and love of education. As a leader of a committee in the HRC, I have especially appreciated the unique way HRC upperclassmen partner and welcome new students—as a freshman, I felt so warmly welcomed by all the older students who offered to take me to church, take me grocery shopping, or even just grab coffee. The HRC is truly a unique community at Baylor, and I am blessed to have spent so much time here. I love community dinner because it is a sweet time to gather together with my friends, get dressed up, and enjoy good conversations! Community Dinner will always be my favorite tradition in the HRC. There is something special about eating together, sharing good conversation, and enjoying friendships all over a good meal! I've always enjoyed the opportunity to dress nicely and hear great speakers come and share their wisdom surrounding the HRC's theme of the year.

My Baylor experience could not be explained without the HRC. I have called the HRC home for my four years at Baylor and it has been cultivating in many ways. The diversity of majors and backgrounds has allowed me to grow my scope of knowledge in many unexpected ways, while also allowing myself room to grow in my own personal interests. My faith has grown exponentially due to the nurturing environment and my confidence has been solidified through the support found in the HRC. The HRC has given me a growth mindset that does not settle and constantly seeks progression and innovation. Home is not a term i use lightly. After the most difficult days filled with rigorous classes and numerous meetings, I always find enjoyment returning to my residence hall knowing I will be greeted with my friends turned family who continually recharge my spirit and encourage me to carry on towards a brighter future. My favorite tradition is the HRC Hall Battle hosted at the beginning of the school year. Halls compete against each other in small competitions, allowing all students to participate and unify in friendly competition. Relationships are quickly fostered and social barriers quickly fade as we join together as halls for a common goal.
